Why the name Red-Head?
The founder, Warren, wanted to be able to easily identify his handiwork by simply opening the engine hood. Our housings are black with a distinguishable red top cover -- thus Red-Head. It is another small step that takes more time and effort. Of course, it doesn't add to the quality of the product, but it is our trademark. It is a mark that ensures quality. There are some in our industry that are referred to as spray and pray rebuilds -- meaning put a seal in it, spray it with paint and pray it works. This would be much more difficult to do with a top cover a different color.

How long will one of your steering gears last?
This is an impossible question to answer. We are not perfect -- though perfection is our goal. We do everything we can assure our product last as long as or longer than O.E.M. When you buy a new car how long will it last? How long will my engine last? My transmission? When you are dealing with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical or metallurgy, they all have something to do with care, stress, type of use, and a bit of luck. These things are all part of how long any part will last.

Does my steering gear have to have a red top cover?
No, we do many custom rebuilds for matching number cars and show cars where original paint is required. In most cases, this means cast blast housing with brushed aluminum top cover or semi gloss black housing with brushed aluminum top cover for Saginaw boxes. Because every job is a custom job, we can pretty much do any color scheme you would like, but our standard colors are black housings and red top covers.

We also have people bring in or ship in steering gears to be disassembled and reassembled after powder coating or chroming at the place of their choosing.

What about Ratios?
Again, if a specific ratio has been made by a manufacturer, we can do it. Small bore housing Saginaw ratios are available in 18:1, 15:1, and 12.8:1. Fords - 18:1 and 15:1 in forward rotation.

What is your warranty?
Our standard warranty is 12 months, unlimited mileage. However, we are not at all rigid on these terms. If a unit has not been in an accident or in some other way abused, and it definitely has been determined to have a problem, we have been known to replace or discount another unit well beyond this time period. People in the industry who know, know that we stand behind our work because we believe our work is the best!
